Listen to the song. There’s just something about the method, sound, of African tunes, that makes you feel it.
Especially when home alone mopping your house on a Sunday morning.
Definitely feel like there’s company.

Yesterday, 9th February 2010, someone told me I was in this month’s issue of KLue magazine. (I will speak of the story behind this someone in a different post). They had asked me to contribute quite some time ago to a very (very) small part called Soundtrack, where I am asked to name a song I would use to describe KL and why. Other friends of mine who also contributed were Niki Cheong and Grey Yeoh.
The song I chose was Chemistry by Butterfingers. I assume for editing and space reasons, my explanation was not included. I’ve quoted it below.
Like KL, it’s diverse. The song has a few parts. Slow, build-up, drop, tease, intense, suspense. There are nights when I ride my bike on Jalan Kuching at 60km/h with ease, other times at 120km/h with heart. There are times Jalan Sultan Ismail tells me a red light means stop, other times it makes me go faster.
*Blinking blue lights though, well that’s when I’m fcked. ;)
.
On 31st January 2010, I was at a dear friend’s wedding. Dahlia married one of the Butterfingers’ band member, a decent and nice chap I must say. I’d compliment her too, but I think she’s gotten enough.
.
Today, 10th February 2010, ten days after the wedding, I received her invitation. Many thanks to the bride’s diligent follow up via electronical means to ensure her guests were cordially informed and invited.

“The PS22 Chorus delivers big time on this New York anthem by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys! Props to Dominique & Messale for amazing jobs on the lead vocals & rap (respectively). And of course to Ethan for a well-deserved happy dance at the song’s conclusion.
We based our version more on the Alicia Keys “Empire State of Mind Part II,” but as a tribute to Jay-Z version, the kids and I created our own little rap that obviously was a bit more age appropriate.
2010 is proving to be an extremely prolific year for the PS22 Chorus! Look for them in February on the Tyra Banks Show!”

In March 2007, I watched Alih PungGONG (above). One of the most amazing theatre productions. It was primarily a gamelan music performance, that captivated me beyond words, by a group called Rhythm in Bronze. They are 12 years old this year and will be throwing a show this weekend with a birthday theme. To illustrate the impression they left on me, I got tickets for the upcoming show two weeks ago.

Since I can’t decide which song from her I’d like to put up here, I’ll insert a clip to illustrates better her significance.
About ten months ago, I distinctively remember hearing the news online. As her passing was inevitable, the sadness were proportionate, enough that I remember all day singing Mama Africa (Chico Cesar’s version) to my then eleven day old nephew.

On my last day of the 5+ week trip of the continent. In the train from two ends of the line. Tigre (the delta) to Retiro (Capital Federal/city centre). This man came in a few stops before Belgrano. I knew he was coming as I heard him sing in the previous carriage, so when he came into mine, I got up and stood in the middle to get a good recording. Hope you enjoy the classical song as did I. If you don’t, I suppose you can call me posting it a wasted effort.

Recently, I got a set of new songs that I seem rather hooked to. It is indeed a breath of fresh air and I’m not sure if it’s a case of affecionate withdrawal symptom, or fantastic taste in music. Either way, it’s a blowhorn call for a perasan case.
