Think

Recently someone said this about me online, “I like this guy he so rational and he’s so true! He’s a true thinker.”  (I trust many would disagree.) This came in the same day I was actively expressing online, my views on a particular issue related to human & civil rights.

Some months ago I read the Introduction of Practical Thinking by Professor Dr. Edward De Bono. I’m not sure if the above quote about me is parallel to De Bono’s definition, but this is what the Prof had to say about it,

As soon as one can talk about thinking one is on the way to regarding it as a skill like playing tennis or cooking. Far too many people regard thinking as a matter of inborn intelligence – which is not. In my researches and experiments I have again and again come across very intelligent people who turned out to be very poor thinkers. Nor have I found that thinking skill has much to do with education, for some of the best educated people (Ph.D.s, university lecturers and professors, senior business executives, etc.) have also been poor thinkers. To regard thinking as a skill rather than as a gift is the first step towards doing something to improve that skill.

I never promoted this blog. Yesterday I found out one person has been ‘following’. I got this link, from that same person. In honour and appreciation, I suppose.

Look

When you’re down, the worst thing, is to look, up at nothing.

Interesting

Stephen Fry, hosts QI (Quite Interesting), where questions posed to four personalities are often so difficult they almost never get the answer and the points don’t matter.

As a part-time job, I started tutoring secondary school students since 2003 and I suspect this year will be my last as I am often not kind to them for the lack of my blunt tongue. Often I am asked a question by a student about the relevance of a particular matter they are learning.

Below, is a response most apt by Fry.

Capture

This post, in essence, is about giving credit to the person who taught me the bulk of what I know about advertising, and  areas related to it.

I was asked to be part of a non-profit organisation ran by a group of random people primarily from the corporate sector, between 25-35 years old.

As a newcomer, the meeting saw myself contributing views in the area of marketing and communications, which is the initial premise of them inviting me to join.

After supper, I hitched a ride with one of the co-founders. He confessed being surprised that my background is law.

…because when you were explaining in the meeting earlier, for a while there you had the room spellbound, listening to you, wondering ‘wow. Who is this guy?’
